Tampa's library system is managed by the Tampa-Hillsboro County Public Library System. THPLS operates 25 libraries in Tampa and Hillsboro County, including John F German Public Library in downtown Tampa. The Tampa Library System was originally created in the early 20th century and the West Tampa Library was donated by Andrew Carnegie. Tampa's library is also part of the Hillsboro County Public Library Cooperative Including a larger library network, Temple Terrace and the library of neighboring cities in Plant City.
Public libraries offer public services. If the library is part of the county library system, citizens who have active library cards around the county can use the library branch associated with the library system. If the library is not a member of the county public library system, the library can only serve their city. Most of the materials in public libraries can be borrowed. The library staff will determine the number of items that customers are permitted to borrow and the details of the assigned borrowing time. Normally, a library will issue library cards to members of communities where you want to borrow books. Visitors in the city usually get cards from public libraries.
Public library system: You can contract with county and municipal governments that are public library organizations designed to provide library services within the context of written contracts and do not provide library services. This system can take the form of a regional library system or a collaborative library network. This system is managed by 5 to 15 boards of directors and / or government-designated board of directors. This system is covered by state and local subsidies. In addition to the above types of libraries, school libraries can form a non-profit enterprise to provide services to the community at times other than school and to manage public libraries. H. Grady Bradshaw Libra ~ in the valley is managed by such a company and is reported in the FSCS census with a statutory basis code "countyt parish".
