Thomas Knoll (born April 14, 1960) is an American software engineer who developed Adobe Photoshop. He began developing image processing programs in 1988. After Knoll created the first core routine, he showed them to his brother John Knoll who was working at industrial light and magic. John likes what he saw, suggests new features, and encourages Tom to put them into a package with a graphical user interface. In 1989, John sold this program to Adobe Systems Inc., and Adobe Systems Inc. released it as a photo shop.

Photoshop was developed in 1987 by American brothers Thomas and John Knoll who sold licenses to Adobe Systems Incorporated in 1988. Thomas Knoll, a doctoral student at the University of Michigan, started writing a program to display grayscale images on a monochrome display with my Macintosh Plus. A program called Display caught the attention of his brother John Knoll, Industrial Light & Magic employee who proposed Thomas to turn it into a sophisticated image editing program. Thomas spent six months on his study in 1988 and worked with his brothers in the program. Thomas has renamed the ImagePro program, but its name has already been adopted.
