The Kennewick Man and NAGPRA

On July 26, 1996, two people were walking along the banks of the Columbia River near Kennewick, Washington State, but did not expect to find the world's oldest intact skeleton ruins. Although the people of Kennewick got a considerable reputation, discussions on the application of the Native American cemetery protection and returning law (NAGPRA) and whether there is physical right to Native American or archaeologists are on the rise. When the human body is found, anthropologist James Chatters studies him and he discovers that "Skulls have different characteristics from contemporary American indigenous people" (Native Americans and archaeologists).

The Kennewickman controversy is one of the most famous federal court cases involving NAGPRA and anthropological studies.
