The Joy of Going to the Library

A few months ago when I got into this new position I reached an agreement with myself and went to the library at least once a week. In other words, it takes time to walk about buildings on campus and load tangible books. I was fortunate to be able to digitally access the latest journal article in the previous position, but I missed the narrow corridor caused by walking on the bookshelf. It is a good thing to browse textbooks, special issue, memoirs and other academic titles. When you open old books, they will have a wonderful scent.

I really hope to have access to my office digital journal with just a few clicks. The number of journals related to my research field and the total number of articles seems to be increasing every year, so the ability to keep in sync with my computer through RSS feed and online access to PDF is important. But when I explore the direction of some new research (at least for me), I will see basic papers 30 or 40 years ago. Many of them are special issues published as books. Many of these books are not digitized, so they will not be digitized. Therefore, we need to go to the library. Interestingly, the research which was very common now seems to be a special occasion.

The experience of meeting books and publications near physics is one that can not be reproduced in the digital world. Michael Welland has a nice post about the occasional experience with this library.

One of the many arguments for supporting old-fashioned good libraries - physical library, hard copy, stack diversity - is an immense element for coincidence discovery.

It is also nice to add online features like Amazon to magazine articles and databases, but it is different from meeting interesting things just because of wiping out the shelves. It pulled your attention. I do not know if the digital library can reproduce this, but it is not a problem. I like to leave a small cave and have a reason to take a walk in the library on campus. Perhaps today I will find something interesting.

One of the joy of my life is the moment when I finished reading a book. This is an exciting combination to enjoy the joy of a good story (or fun idea) and to mix the infinite possibilities of the next step! Since I am working in the library is surrounded by all kinds of possibilities, I need a little discipline. When I choose my next book, I will not be included in the list, I will obey my own happiness. I remembered my feelings, interests, and other things I was reading. If my other book is a "thinking book", I usually bring a novel - mix my reading as I will prosper in various articles. Importantly, I like browsing, but I usually accomplish this according to my own needs. A well-thought out smidgen reduces dissatisfaction and the beginning of error. Until now, I am good at predicting what I want to do.

As a writer (who wants to publish witty novels), I think that "book" is as good as what at the beginning. Book exchange, libraries, literacy groups, charity organizations provide us with the opportunity to discover the joy of reading, the pleasure of giving, and friendship when discussing the fantasy and clever writer's story I will. I call myself "The Book Neenah". When giving gifts, especially when giving it to my children and grandchildren, I choose a book (it is an electronic book in this electronic age). I encourage friends and relatives with children to participate in a mysterious organization, the Dolly Parton Imagination Library, which provides free preschool children for free children.

Parton should be respected only for this behavior. Twenty years ago, she founded Dolly Parton's Imagination Library. Imagination Library is a program to distribute free books to children. This program was as small as it was originally distributed in the poor region Patton was born and grew up in Sevier County, Tennessee. Imagination Library sends a free book every month until 5 years of age and is training "to read love for pre-school children and their families within the county." This program has been very successful and expanding worldwide. And the Dolly production program can be duplicated in every community that cooperates to provide regional support. " More than 750,000 children monthly have 80,000,000 books and free books. Just this month, she distributed 958,638 books to children all over the world.

Dolly Parton is queen that everyone admits, it is the center of the universe and may be a human unicorn.
