The Issue of Transportation and the Environment

2023-04-07 18:43:11

Transportation - Transportation and environmental problems are somewhat contradictory. Traffic brings a certain social and economic benefit, but traffic also affects the environmental system. Aggressively, traffic supports the increasing mobility needs of passengers and cargoes, and negatively, traffic is associated with increased automobile transport, traffic jams and externalities of the environment. Since the industrial era, humans have changed their way of moving rapidly, and as this evolution continues, we are using more and more resources.

Traffic brings tremendous social and economic benefits, so traffic and environmental issues are inherently contradictory, but at the same time traffic also affects the environmental system. On the one hand, transport activity supports the increase in passenger and cargo movement requirements, while on the other hand transport activity is associated with increased environmental externalities. In addition, environmental conditions affect the transportation system in terms of operating conditions and infrastructure requirements (such as construction and maintenance) (see Transportation and Space for review of these restrictions).

We divide research topics related to the environment and transport into three fields: Identification and measurement of environmental impact (pollution level, noise emission etc.), technical solution for transporting environmental problems, environmental problems Action solution for transporting. In related cases, the solution covers mitigation and adaptation. The results of this survey were taken from a series of domestic research projects accessible within the fifth and sixth EU framework programs (FP 5 and FP 6) and the Traffic Research Knowledge Center (TRKC). This manual describes research projects, projects that contribute to these fields, and the results of their main surveys.
