The Influence of Foreign and Local Cultures on Traditional Mosques in Indonesia

The purpose of this paper is to investigate the influence of foreign and regional culture on the architectural and socio-cultural activities of symbolic Banten Grand Mosque. Indonesia has a strategic position to become a "crucible" for various cultural developments. In this article we will focus on the three areas of this complex, the main building of the religious space, the main mosque, and the area of ​​the building and cemetery of Tayama where social space is open. The tomb of the royal family reflects the cultural tradition. This study applies qualitative methods to cultural studies and exploratory data methods. This research is very important for the documentation of Islamic architecture and the cultural identity of Indonesia and it conveys its historical knowledge to other countries, especially historically and geographically interrelated countries .

Similar mosques including Demark Grand Mosque originally built in the 15th century, similar foreign and local influences are seen in Indonesian Sumatra and Java. The early Javanese mosque used clues from designs influenced by Hinduism, Buddhism and Chinese architecture, Takagi, and the multi-layered roof imitating the Hindu temple tower in Bali; it is a ubiquitous Islamic dome It appeared in Indonesia. As a result, the style of Java affected neighboring countries of the south island of Indonesia - Malaysia, Brunei and the Mosque style of the Philippines
