The Inevitable Two-Party System in the U.S.

Formation of a bipartisan system in the United States is inevitable. George Washington warned of the shortcomings of his farewell speech, but the United States continued on this path and the system was established anyway. For various reasons, the United States inevitably has two-part system. At the time, one of the reasons for the formation of a two-party system was only a general problem. This includes the problems of federal power and state power that dominated American politics of the 18th century.

Recent functions on US systems have long brought about a bilateral discussion, but the stability of the bilateral system in the United States is undeniable. For a long time, scholars believe that the two parties are the result of the two main features of the election. However, the evidence from Europe and Asia (especially the UK and India in particular) shows that these two features alone can produce a multi-party system.

Why are there two parties? Due to the structure of the US election, one of the seats is connected to a geographical area, so it is common for two major political parties to dominate. Even though there are other options on the ballot, most voters understand that there is little opportunity for a small party to win, even in an office. Therefore, they voted for the candidates from the two major parties and supported the potential winners. Of the 535 lawmakers of the House of Representatives and the Senate, only a few are regarded as non Republican or Democrats. In the presidential election the third party did not go well. Given the barriers created by third parties, the serious challenge of the two-part system in the US is unlikely to occur. But that does not mean that we should treat it as completely stable. The American party system is technically a loose organization consisting of 50 different political parties and has undergone several major changes since the first integration since the end of the civil war. Third party movements may play a role in some of these changes, but they have brought a shift in partisan among American voters.
