The Industrial Revolution's Impact on Modern Architecture in the Early 1900's

"The Industrial Revolution was a major period of industrialization that took place from the latter part of the 18th century to the early 19th century." The UK was the "mother" of the industrial revolution. Meanwhile, the UK has made significant progress in the innovation of new materials, such as the development of high quality steel, cast iron and glass. For a while, this made Britain more advantageous than most developed countries. It was mainly related to architecture. Great development also appeared in the fields of agriculture, manufacturing, and power generation.

Modern architecture at the beginning of the 20th century underwent industrial stages. Awful, ordinary lines have little imagination. It seems to promote desensitization of human size and shape. (Catsimatides, A) The building was shrunk to a glass box or a white block. No formats or styles have been added to impair the functionality of the building. Another contribution is exterior upgrade and high cost. For a rapid capitalist society, cost reduction is very attractive. In his article "Decoration and Crime", architect Adolphe Roth commented that "Cultural evolution is synonymous with the removal of decorations from Utilitarian purposes". We have become a purely monetary society. Apart from the simple and practical form of the building, it is rarely used.

Modern civilization experienced three major social, economic and industrial revolution. The first industrial revolution was built around steam and changed modern society by redefining transport and manufacturing processes. Next, Thomas Edison promised to "reorganize the world's life" by providing efficient energy and modern communication, the emergence of electricity has caused a second revolution. Electricity then opened the way for our third (and current) digital revolution, released civilization from fossil fuels and offered technology to more than 4 billion people worldwide. The common point connecting all great revolution is to redefine the way to participate by improving the quality of life and to advance society by widely defined technology by promoting economic development.

Morris's attempt to quantify the impact of the industrial revolution has revealed how much it has brought about changes. How have people used energy and created a paradigm for new substances that do not depend on natural resources for decades from the end of the 19th century to the beginning of the 20th century? This industrial revolution laughed at past history. So what's the next step? "Oriental" catches up with "West" and merges. But what happened then is still unknown. Morris will use the image of Asimov's "dusk" if the civilization can collapse sometime completely. You can easily imagine how this will happen, including climate change, nuclear warfare, pandemics, meteor strikes. For Morris, his normative goal is to find a way to prevent humans from falling on the civilization of our planet.
