Even after Indian independence for 60 years, the status of women in India has not improved so much. Repression and slavery still forced her to live a restricted life. However, education helps women make progress and they are trying to get rid of male domination. Manju Kapur's first novel, "Hard Daughter 1" was published in 1998 and has been honored since then. Then she contacted her cousin Shakuntala from Lahore and she began to realize there was a huge new world outside her four walls. Virmati managed to travel to Lahore to continue her studies, and her roommate Swarna lata introduced her a more revolutionary and progressive idea. Manju kapur has a wide confrontation within Virmati and Virmati is fighting between present and past. Virmati finally became Professor's second wife
