Photosynthesis is a chemical process in which green plants use water and carbon dioxide to synthesize specific nutrients using radiant energy. This process takes place effectively and requires the presence of light, carbon dioxide, chlorophyll and enzymes. In the process of photosynthesis, carbon dioxide and water produce glucose and oxygen as waste in the presence of sunlight, enzymes and chlorophyll. Radiant energy is broken down into hydrogen atoms and oxygen atoms by water, which combine with carbon dioxide to form glucose and oxygen.

Photosynthesis is an important process. In order to understand what happens when a plant uses light to make fuel, as many opportunities as possible are necessary. Photosynthesis for illumination of PBS is an excellent resource to investigate causes and methods of photosynthesis. Please try the puzzle at the end! Please look at the following short films on photosynthesis. When viewing short movies, you need to find some important information before the presentation ends. In particular, we will focus on helping scientists use the power of scientific methods and successful experiments to help reveal facts of plants many people have never noticed. Just like you, you will also learn:

Plants use light to make food through a process called photosynthesis. During photosynthesis plants use green chlorophyll (pigment) to help convert carbon dioxide, water and light into carbohydrates and oxygen. When they do, they make the material they need to grow. This is one amazing reason for plants: they do not have to go to the grocery store! There are various colors in the visible spectrum. These colors are visible in the rainbow. Plants use light of various kinds and colors in various ways. Plants use blue light to help leaf growth. When combined with blue light, red light helps to plant flowers. We think there are lots of red lights on the lamp that warms the household lights. Green light does not have any special help for plants. It is reflected on the green surface of the plant
