The Importance of Historical Context on Literature

It is possible to understand specific literary works outside the historical context; however, if they have background knowledge they are more beneficial to the reader. Taha Muhammad Ali is a Palestinian poet born in 1931. He grew up in Galilee, Safria in the Middle East. Ali is self-taught by reading classical Arabic literature, American novels, and English poetry. Ali then began writing poetry in the 1970's. He wrote a poem titled "Meeting at the airport", which is based on his personal experience, his background information and history are not known.

The historical background is an important part of life and literature, and without it, the meaning of memories, stories and characters will be diminished. What is the historical background? That is essentially the details surrounding the event. In more technical terms, historical context refers to social, religious, economic, and political conditions that exist at specific times and places. Basically, this is the time and location details of the situation, it allows you to interpret and analyze past and future works and events as well as modern standards.
