This ethnographic research is exploring the development of the identity of nine hearing impaired people through identity narrative. Sarup (Preston, 2001) concisely describes the narrative value of qualitative research in the sentence "Our identity develops while talking about stories of life". The resulting story provides an ethnographically rich data body. In this article, the data was collected through an interview with nine hearing impaired in South Africa, focused on identity narrative, and was registered in a general main school or a deaf school. Starting with exploring the focus of the narrative of the deaf personality character about the experience at school, this research divides into three different but interrelated subject categories to assist the first step in topic content analysis.
