The Humanization of Grendel

John Gardner 's Grundel is a revised heroic epic Beowulf, but the view changed. Beowulf 's opponent and Gardner' s work - Glendell 's nominal features, Glendell' s opinion. In Glendell, Gardner is personalizing Grundel by emphasizing the similarity between Glendell's life and human life. Through Gardner's reflection on the human feelings of Grendel, human development and human faults, this seemingly opposite, strange character is understood, becoming "human". One of the most interesting aspects of this quote is that it focuses on the revenge of the human mother, Glendell, not human revenge. There are three major opponents in this ancient epic - mother of Dragon, Glendell, Glendell. Glendell's mother attacked the main character of poetry, Beowulf and retaliated against him for murdering his son. But she is a real monster, and as our sensitivity is, monsters can not be just villains. She asked for revenge by murder rather than "civilization", so she was brandified as a villain. However, according to the Nordic tradition, revenge for killing tribes by killing murderers is considered heroism. In the same verse, when "heroes" retaliates, they will be praised, but when a mother who lost her loved one does, she becomes a villain. At John Gardnus, Glendell's main character, Grundel, was very confused about his life. He did not notice that he was looking for his own goal of life and that his aim is to become a villain. Humans in the novel are afraid of Glendar. For them, he is a beast. As a natural reaction of our human beings in fear, we tend to get rid of the causes that fear us. In many cases, humans tried to kill Glendell as he was considered a bad man until Beowulf accomplished that goal. The role Beowulf and Glendell played in the story can be easily deciphered. Beowulf is pure and gentle, Glendell is pure evil. One reason why Beowulf is so famous is that it is one of the first stories of good and evil, or light and dark.
