The History of Slavery in the World

Printable slavery dates back to prehistoric times, apparently based on domestication of animals. Since the earliest times in history, slavery has been discovered in the most "advanced" region of the world. The earliest civilizations along Mesopotamia's Tigris and Euphrates, Egypt's Nile, Indian Indus Valley and China's Yangtze River Valley are all slavery. Hammurabi Code, the oldest legal system, admits slavery. However, the proportion of slaves in these early civilizations was small. This is because male prisoners of war were usually killed and women were enslaved by foreign workers or libel.

Normally, when considering slavery in Africa, I think of a 19th century American slave. But slavery is common to most parts of human history in many parts of the world. The same applies to ancient Africa. There, slavery was seen in most ancient empires and civilizations of the continent. People can be an ancient African slave in various ways. Many slaves are captives. These slaves are often sold to distant places to prevent them from running away from home. Sometimes people become slaves for a while to pay their debts or they are obliged to become slaves for crime. A child born to slave has also become a slave
