Following the legacy of David L. Wolper's son Mark Wolper and Alex Haley, History Channel asked for a remake of the mini drama. As an executive producer, Mark Walper's new 8-hour mini-painting is from a modern perspective, but uses Hailey's novels and the original mini drama. In April 2015, Lifetime and A & E will also make a remake of the Roots mini drama along with the History Channel.
