Many cities in the United States have a unique community called Chinatown. Chinatown is a village of the country, it is a very concentrated city city, therefore it is a unique culture different from big cities. For urban dwellers these ethnic settlements may exist without much thought about historical or contemporary reasons for their existence. The basis for this discussion is to first explain some background behind Canadian immigration policy and then discuss the history of Chinese immigrants in Vancouver. I believe that many Americans still do not know the history of Chinese immigrants and their experience in America. Some people do not know how many Chinese people contributed to this country. I do not know why, but the impression I got from American history textbooks is that there is little touch on Chinese immigrants and their contribution to America. Almost all of the focus is Caucasian with European background and their role in the development of that country. Without the contributions of the Chinese people, America may not be in the world today, it is also one of the world's wealthiest and brightest and most powerful countries. Immigrant contributions from China include construction of railroads, cultivation of land, and conversion of Sacramento Delta into the world's largest farmland. More people should know the situation of Chinese immigrants in the process of domestic economic growth.
