History of mathematics in Babylonia Although the history of Babylon is very long, this article is a short and important summary of the whole history. The history of Babylonia began in late 2000 when intruders were attacking the Kingdom of Sumeria. Sumer is a powerful kingdom of West Asia, and some are Babylonians. After the destruction of the Kingdom of Sumer, the city state of Lhasa and Ising settled in the land once occupied by Sumer.

Babylonian mathematics refers to any mathematics from the early Sumerians of Hellenistic era to Christian dawn, Mesopotamian people (modern Iraq). The bulk of Babylon's mathematical work has come from two very distant times. . Because of the central role of Babylon as a learning place, it was named Babylonian mathematics. Later, under the rule of the Arab Empire, Mesopotamia, in particular Baghdad, became an important research center of Islamic mathematics again.

Both Knuth's Babylonian and Goldstine books are attempting to combine the history of young fields with the traditions of ancient mathematics. The Goldstine book adapted to the mathematical model can be seen as the (previous) history of mathematics. By contrast, in numerical analysis Knuth's paper brings computer science tools and concepts to the classical part of mathematical history.

The history of Stewart began with Babylonian and Greek mathematics and introduced the basic concepts for junior high school students to understand. As his history progressed, mathematics slowly became more technical, especially when he got complex numbers and their descendants, quaternions and octal numbers. History ended with the discovery of Sophus Lie, the Lie group was named, and a work by German mathematician Joseph Killing, which is rarely known, categorized the Lie group. Through this historical part, Stewart skillfully intertwined mathematics with the colorful sketches of mathematician life.
