The Geography of the Middle Colony

Delaware, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania are considered intermediate colonies. Because they grow a lot of wheat, they are often called colonies in the granaries.

Glaciers were picked up from the land of New England and settled in the central colony. Once melted, the soil becomes fertile in hills and valleys. Why is fertile soil important?

As all owners are going to make money, they divide the fertile land into small parts and then sell or borrow to the settlers.
