The Future of File Sharing

According to a recent survey, 61% of people aged 14-24 are illegally downloading copyrighted music (Van Der Sar, August 2009). The process of providing digital files over the Internet called "file sharing" is a habit for many people of all ages. Since the introduction of the first file sharing program Napster in 1999, the popularity of file sharing has steadily increased. According to Koleman Strumpf, as of 2006, 60% of Internet traffic was due to file sharing but less than 10% in 1999 (Pries 1). The rapid growth of file sharing can be attributed to several factors. One is that society is generally accepting downloading music for free (Grassmuck 1).

File sharing or peer-to-peer software programs (such as Limewire, BitTorrent) allow you to enjoy copyrighted music, movies, games, software, and other files without your consent without your knowledge. Sharing this work is illegal, leading to a significant increase in legislation and illegal copying prevention work. Organizations such as the American Recording Industry Association (RIAA) and the American Film Institute (MPAA) monitor file sharing on the Internet, and when computers on the network illegally share copyrighted documents, I'll announce it.
