The five topics of geography were originally used as a framework to allow kids from kindergarten to high school to access geography. These themes were replaced by the 1994 National Geographic Standards, but it is still an easy and convenient way to teach children the study of geography. The first topic is the location. The location is actually best divided into two subcategories, absolute and relative. The absolute position represents the location of the area according to agreed criteria such as latitude and longitude or address. Regardless of the surrounding area, keep track of the absolute location of the place so you can locate it from anywhere. The relative position represents the location of the area based on the connection to another place such as a landmark.

The main focus is on the five themes of geography: interaction and movement between place, place, region, people and the environment. Students will understand where the place is and why human and nature features occupy a particular place. Students investigate how geographical areas are formed and change over time. They also work to understand how humans are related to their environment and how people and thought movements affect the planet.
