The phrase "voting rights" is primarily related to women's voting campaigns, but campaigning covers the struggle of voting rights for all individuals (Weatherford). Part of the reason is that women's suffrage campaign has suffered from long-term battles. The main reason linking the voting rights movement to women's voting may be to gain the right to vote for white women. The struggle for women's voting rights is a struggle with the right to release slaves (McCarlock)

In the broadest sense, the campaign embodies the struggle of every individual seeking a voting right, but this term is seen as a synonym for women's elections, which comes from the struggle of women's rights (Weatherford 1998). This may be because women's suffrage movement is a 72-year battle rooted in slavery abolition for at least some reformists, in relation to the rights to blacks and women's votes. In Liechtenstein, women have the right to pass women's voting rights referendum in 1984. In 1968, the three referendums held in 1971 and 1973 failed to secure women's voting rights.
