According to Fidel Castro's law, he is one of the three survivors of the Cuban refugee community, seeking political asylum and freedom in communist Cuba. Elian's mother, Elizabeth Blottons, and her common law husband and nine other people drowned when they threw away and ship the boat to America.
In 1997, Elian's mother Elizabet Gonzalez began building a relationship with Lazaro Munero. She got divorced from Elian's father, Juan Michel Gonzalez. Munero had previously escaped to the United States and gathered a "100 page report" with the Cuban government. He missed Elizabeth and his family, so he returned to Cuba. He was imprisoned for several months. After liberation, he persuaded Elizabeth to return to the United States with him to pursue freedom. He began recruiting passengers for ship repair and travel. On January 5, 2000, "INS decides that Elien's father Juan Miguel Gonzalez will be the spokesperson for Earnan, which means that Alien's father decides whether to return to Cuba or not" ("Timetable" 9). It is impossible to misunderstand the meaning of INS regarding this decision. INS clearly stated that Juan Miguel was the only voice that decided whether Elean would leave the United States or stay in the United States. As Juan Miguel said, she still said Elian wanted to live in Cuba, so Elian should have returned to Cuba long ago. March 23, 2000 "... INS wrote a letter to lawyer Elian Miami's lawyer, Kendall Coffey In the letter, INS has set a deadline of 12 o'clock tomorrow (Schedule 3 them If you do not mandate Elian 's deadline or closing with your family, the power and aggression claimed by INS will be lost.
