The evolving role of engineers: towards sustainable development of the built environment

Sustainability must take into account the requirements of systems that interact in a complex way. Given the infrastructure that provides a construction environment to the urbanized world, these systems require not only engineering science that engineers rely on to solve prior art problems but also to accept various other skills there is. This will require engineering education to change the way you prepare students for their professional practice. In this article we propose to expand solution space to engineers based on field research. We focus on the building environment primarily mainly for two reasons. 1) Global "green building" network? 2) experts including architects, engineers, contractors and developers; 2) the built environment accounts for 50% of the US energy consumption and has attractive opportunities to achieve large scale short-term impact Offers. The current goal of the green building movement is to create a "zero carbon" building that is not responsible for adding greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. We believe we need to set more fundamental goals.

Today we have a sustainable development goal and a 2030 agenda for sustainable development. Indeed, in the past 15 years, sustainable development as an international movement has developed and gaining momentum, but it is not a rash. But its role in international law remains uncertain - does it have the currency of international rule, norms or other things? Virginie Barral calls it "inevitable paradigm". There is no doubt that a judge is a powerful tool for interpreting existing norms, but its true value lies in essential functions, whether through treaties or not. Another point to note is the evolutionary nature of sustainable development. This means that it will change in time, region or related theme (time, place, person, substance), the obligation will depend on whether it is being developed or under development.

Sustainability is our process towards sustainable development. The focus of sustainable development is to improve the quality of life for all people while providing these resources indefinitely without increasing the use of natural resources beyond environmental capacity. As defined in the Brundtland Report (1987), many construction projects are done outside the premises, so the impact on existing premises is minimal. Contamination by noise, dust and light is decreasing compared to traditional buildings, and vehicles benefit from less vehicle movement. As a result, this structure can perform operations with minimal interruption of daily activities.
