Ashley Montagu tells the story of an elephant man, an unusual book about the study of human dignity by John Merrick. "Human" is an interesting book that captures the core of the spirit, a simple but unfortunate story of a person. It reminds people the precious gifts of life and the frequency with which they are taken for granted. As a sad and unique story of John Merrick, "elephant man" develops, and everyone is taught lessons of strength and courage. When Lord Frederic Uhus first discovered John Merrick in 1884, he could only express it as "loneliness to be cuddled together" (14). Merrick has a terrible disease called an elephant's disease. This extreme misfortune made inconvenience to Merrick, and his figure was a monster. No one wants to make friends with John Merrick, as his skull size, waist, and lots of skin grow randomly in his body. He felt afraid everywhere and was tired

In "The Elephant Man", John Merrick is kind, warm and kind person who is avoided from society. His embarrassing and clumsy look made people frightened to see him and caused frustration like human beings. Until one day, a generous man named Trevis decided to do some research on him to find out his condition. Looking forward to a quiet creature, he found an extraordinary person living in this huge shell. "I hope I can sleep like an ordinary person" (200). John Merrick learned to live for the pleasurable enjoyment of mankind, and his spirit changed the lives of the people around him. Like Esperanza, he wants to be a writer. Unfortunately, at the end of the novel, after being accepted, the elephant died of regret. But the exciting part of this story is that he is regarded as an ordinary human dream come true before his life is over.
