Molybdenum also increases the strength of high temperature steel. When alloying with nickel, molybdenum forms heat resistant and corrosion resistant materials used in the chemical industry

Molybdenum disulfide (MoS 2) is one of molybdenum compounds and is used as a high temperature lubricant. Another molybdenum compound, molybdenum trioxide (MoO 3), is used to attach enamel to metal. Other molybdenum compounds include molybdic acid (H 2 MoO 4), molybdenum hexafluoride (MoF 6) and molybdenum phosphide (MoP 2).

As a transition metal, molybdenum easily forms a compound with other elements. Molybdenum occupies two parts per million (ppm) of the Earth's crust, but it is not found in nature. The main molybdenum ore is molybdenite (molybdenum disulfide), but it is also contained in urufenite (lead molybdate) and powder (calcium molybdate). Soft black mineral molybdenum (molybdenum sulphide) is often not mistaken for graphite or lead ore until it is analyzed by German chemist Carl Scheele in 1778 and it is not a completely new element. . Peter Jacob Hjelm separated molybdenum from carbon and linseed oil in 1781. In the next century, molybdenum has no industrial use. It is relatively rare, pure metal is difficult to extract, and the required metallurgical techniques are not mature yet. Early molybdenum steel alloys showed great promise for increasing hardness, but the efforts to manufacture the alloy on a large scale were contradictory, hindering friability and recrystallization.
