The effects of paid maternity leave: Evidence from Temporary Disability Insurance.

In this paper, we consider the influence of the large-scale paid maternity leave system on the birth result of the United States. In 1978, provinces implementing the Temporary Disability Insurance (TDI) program began offering maternity allowance to pregnant women and the chances of working mothers getting prenatal and postnatal vacations have increased significantly . Using natural data, I discovered that TDI paid maternity leave can reduce the proportion of low birth weight infants by 2%, and the treatment effect after treatment is estimated to be more than 10% . The possibility of premature birth also decreased by 6%. Paid maternity leave has a particularly significant impact on unmarried and black mothers' children.
