0 Survey results 1 literature review Holding international sporting events may have many benefits and adverse effects on host countries. However, as many people have different opinions about such events, it depends on the public. This section introduces past research on the organization of international sporting events reviewed to provide the information necessary for the three research questions identified in this study. 1.1 How does the public view the Olympic Games?
Today's sports are very popular. The number of sports competitions continues to increase and attracts attention from people of all ages. Some of them are known as major international sports events or "large sports events". Examples of such competitions are Olympic, Football World Cup, Commonwealth Games and other international tournaments. They are becoming increasingly famous now. The number of countries and cities that want to host such sports is increasing (Milena M. Parent, pp. 147). Clearly, the reason is that "large sports events" may bring many short-term and long-term economic benefits to the host area.
As sports is currently growing fast, it tends to perform more and more international sporting events. Some of them have already reached the status of "large-scale sports event" like the Olympics and the FIFA World Cup. In other words, it takes a lot of preparation and expenditure to hold these events. Clearly, the main reason many countries and cities bid for such activities is that it may bring a lot of economic benefits to the area. Impacts may be short-term and / or long-term, in other cases positive impacts (tourism development, new infrastructure, national economic recovery) or negative impacts (highs and expulsion of residents). However, it is difficult to check and evaluate these effects. In addition, sports authorities often miss social and cultural influences. As a result, some countries and cities hosting specific "large-scale sports events" do not achieve the expected results.
