The Effectiveness of Composting in Protecting the Environment

As recently more questions about environment and sustainable development are increasing, and we need to accept this movement. As the population grows, our demand for the Earth's resources has also increased and the current rate is unsustainable. As long as nothing changes, we can not get enough fresh water and natural resources to support our society. Everyday, we are increasingly destroyed by the necessity of consumerism, and this will end. As a society, we must make our own personal change. It may be the beginning of a global transition to a sustainable lifestyle.

Earth Works is a project initiated by the NSW Environmental Protection Agency to raise awareness of local communities, to increase waste minimization, recycling, and participation in composting. Nine local governments, environmental organizations, and community groups participated in the pilot project in order to proceed with the project on a trial basis. This program is based on the peer education approach, after which the participants of the Earth Engineering course conduct educational outreach and waste minimization activities in the community. Earth engineering is now used by many local councils, community colleges, community groups.
