Easter Island is a polynesian island located approximately 64 square miles in the South East Pacific, on the west coast of Chile and east of Tahiti. Easter Island is known for a huge stone statue carved from 1100 to 168 basalt, obsidian, red lava and tuff, or Moai (Beck, J. Warren 2003). When Polynesians first settled on the island, they brought bananas, taro, sweet potatoes, sugarcane, chickens, rats and other animals and plants.
