The Dome of the Rock

Dome Dome Since the 13th century, the dome of the rock is still one of the most beautiful and long lasting architectural treasures in the world. The building is decorated with a gorgeous golden dome and an exquisite Koran inscription and is closely related to the world's second largest religion in the history of three Jewish faiths. However, it is not the only effect of this site. Despite its intended purpose, the dome of the rock itself is the focus of religious controversy over thousands of years.

The dome of the rock that the golden dome symbolized of Jerusalem (Arabic "Qubbat al-Sakhrah" and Hebrew "Kippat ha-Sela") is Temple Mount's Islamic holy ground. The dome of the rock is not a mosque but a huge octagonal structure that supports the dome on the rock. The official reason is that it was built to celebrate flying on a flying horse called Buraq from the Mecca Al Aqsa Mosque on the hill of the Temple of Muhammad, from there to Heaven. However, Muhammad died before the Araxa Mosque was built (see Aruaxa Mosque).

Sometimes called "Omar Mosque", the Dome Mosque is not so. Omar built an initial building, but the dome mosque was not built. This building is a shrine and not a mosque.
