The Dangers of Desire in Myrrha

In the Orbid myth "Myrrh" translated by Ted Hughes, Myrrh's character explores the consequences of succumbing to immoral impulses, Myrrha is cursed by her father and her father's sexual desire. She did not choose this feeling, but her crime has an influence on her passion. This is a warning story emphasizing the need to resist temptation at the expense of happiness. From the beginning of the myth, it shows that the feelings of Myrrha are immoral; "Hatred for a man's father is a crime / Myrrat's love for her father / a very serious crime" (105) .

The Greek myth explains that Aphrodite is not only a lover of Adonis but also his birth. She urged Mirrora to incest incest with his father, Tyas king of Assyria, Myrrh made it a dark night.
