The Conscience in Roger Malvin's Burial by Nathaniel Hawthorne

In the burial of Roger Malvern, Nathaniel Hawthorn conscience creates a complicated and magical dialogue with a short story "Roger Malvern's Burial". Reuben Bourne and Roger Malvin faced a special dilemma, they were forced to fight each other like two court lawyers. But here, the two sides are not hostile, and the war by their words continues to pursue what benefits everything else. Ruben was worried about ignorance, afraid that he would choose the best course of action for selfishness.

In "Funeral of Roger Malvern", Hawthorne talks about how a man lied to his wife about how he helped his father on the day he was dying. Young man, Rubenborn, and his girlfriend's father, Roger Malvin, were injured in the fight. After three days of trip, Roger could not continue anymore. He asked Leuven that he should return home to his daughter Dokas, but Ruben refused and wanted to be with Roger until his death. However, Leuven decided that he could try to save Roger by getting help, and otherwise he promised to return to fill Roger. Instead, Leuven went off on the next day he was planning to wait for death. Soon, some travelers came to rescue Leuven and took him to his hometown, where he slept for several days. Therefore, Rubin returned to his house while leaving Roger without being buried.

The story to prove betrayal and guilt is "funeral of Roger Malvern", in which the hero Ruben was not Roger, he did not swear to him that he was an injured comrade. Ruben tells Roger 's daughter that he had an appropriate funeral to the soldiers, hiding the fact that he had left his partner to die alone in the wilderness. For years, he did not return to the funeral, and the sin turned him into a person who made him uncomfortable and desolate, killing him. The feeling of guilt eventually brought him back to the death of Roger, and Leuven accidentally shot his son in a hunting accident. At the end of the story it is not clear whether the shooting incident was truly a product of Reuben's heart due to accident, fate, or guilt
