The Cons of the Death Penalty

The disadvantage of the death penalty was "... more than 600 people were mistakenly convicted and they faced death with a crime that 35 were not committed" (Johnson). The death penalty is an ineffective and expensive method of justice for American citizens. It is easier and cheaper to execute someone on a life sentence than to be executed with someone being dead. The death penalty is unnecessary punishment because the criminal is already under the control of the prison. The death penalty may lead to the death of innocent people.

My investigation on capital punishment is one of the most controversial issues in the criminal justice system. Today, there are many pros and cons for this death penalty. However, if people correctly weigh their claims and show sympathy for the victims, they are more likely to support the death penalty. In fact, most people in the US today agree with this. However, more states are needed to enforce the death penalty. In my opinion, I agree with the death penalty because we can save innocent lives. Professor Hug said that life is very scary for me. My innocent nephew, Sean Burgado, was shot dead on the chest with a gun and did not make a final statement or a will before his death. The executioner can see the T.V. and enjoy the life of 20 years before being executed. They can prepare their death through will and final statements. The murder of Sean remains unresolved, and the killer enjoys life somewhere.

Just like most Americans, I had not thought much about the death penalty until I was arrested. Writer and anti-death activist Helen Prejean said support of the death penalty is 1 mile wide and only 1 inch thick. What she means is that many supporters of the death penalty rarely investigate the grounds of their own beliefs. When I entered the Ellis One Unit, I did not know what to think. People usually pay attention to the death of the death penalty. What they did not tell you is that the life of condemned prisoners themselves is torture. I do not know whether I live in a cage 6 feet by 9 feet tall, or work in a steel toilet. Just look at the opinions of male and female officials.
