In the past few years, the occurrence of violence at school has dominated this country. Since the tragedy in Colombine, school violence intensified, local communities are now adopting further safety measures and youth education system. There are many questions about what kind of violence is the most common and in many cases will degrade sex, race, and environment. Violence itself can be defined as a deliberate act without a legitimate purpose and it can reasonably harm others.
One month after the shooting at Columbine, Bill and I went to Littleton, Colorado, and visited victims and survivors' families. Columbine's tragedy was neither the first case nor the last incident on high level gun violence in the United States. However, it evoked more Federal lawsuits and demanded that guns be taken away from violence, troubles and youth - a fatal combination. Bill and I have announced a proposal to raise the legal age of pistol ownership to 21 years old and limit the purchase of pistols per month.
More tragedies are taking place even in the six months after a terrible tragedy. On October 23, 1999, Carla Jun Ho Halter, the mother of Anne Marie Hofft, one of the seriously injured in Colombine's tragedy, shot himself. Because their daughters were jealous, they had to have money to leave her in the hospital, so they had to sell the house to live in the motel. A psychologist, Harriet Hall, responsible for counseling for Colombine victims, said that Mrs Hohlter was making progress, but such things will not affect anyone up to about six months normally. Only then, I noticed what this person had already left. However, in Colombine's tragedy, 12 students and teachers died, 26 people were injured, 1 died. (The injured girl's mother committed suicide)
