Alice Walker argues that "purple" is still a "theological work trying a journey from religion to spirituality" of her. She reveals to the reader how successful his purpose is. In the preface of "purple", Walker considers her religious development to be the source of inspiration for her novels and marks religion and spirituality as the subject of the book.
