Written by John Wyndham, The Chrysalids tells the reader about Joseph and all his religions about his life. As the reader knows, Joseph is a spiritualist with extreme religion, authority and temper. As the story goes forward, Joseph's personality characteristics begin to grow. Joseph's character became more prominent and Joseph began to choose his religious beliefs than his family. At the end of the novel, we learned that Joseph was about to kill his two children. Joseph is a man with many problems and ultimately will do his best.
Chrysalids is a suspense, satire and sad science fiction novel. The six main characters of the novel are women of David Storm, Joseph Storm, Gordon Storm, Petra Storm, Rosalind and Sealand. They have various situations and various opinions in the story. In this novel, people's differences are not physical but psychological. The narrator of this novel is the left hand, the man with brown hair is called David, one of them is a donkey. When he was young, I sometimes dreamed of a city different from Waknuk. David has the ability to communicate with one's idea called thought form. However, he can not communicate with everyone using the thought form. He can only communicate with people with telepathic ability. On the other hand, he lives in a world where people think that they are normal, and the norm tries to destroy people who are abnormal.
Prejudice is the core of novel The Chrysalids. Joseph Strorm represents the faith of the Waknuks community. The author John Wyndham uses the role of Joseph Strom to criticize the meticulous attention of the Waknuk society. Joseph's faith is clear from the following example. David said whether he had another hand or not. Sophie and the sixth toe, David tried to keep a secret. Joseph's faith was tried when he caught siblings' involvement in the wanknuck raid. Through the role of Joseph Strom, John Wyndham shows that prejudice is dangerous for this society and every society.
