Recently, the Board of Education in Oakland, California voted unanimously that Ebonics (also known as Black English) is a language with a clear African-American roots that has recently been criticized. Their conclusion is that any student who speaks Ebony should receive the assistance necessary to master Standard English (Harris 25). This controversy was triggered when discussing the achievement of the low level of black youth in school. Today, in the United States there are over 20 million blacks. It is difficult to say the number of people who speak black English accurately because it is not the language that all blacks in the United States speaks, so other races are speaking mainly in urban areas and southerly to a certain extent. In addition, Caucasians, especially Caucasians and caucas in the southern region speak English to some extent black. However, because most people hiring it are African-Americans, it is called black English.
