Born in Los Angeles, California, Gina Valdes was bred on both sides of the US - Mexico border. Growing on both sides of the border greatly influenced her life and writing as she was able to experience tradition and customs. Beyond borders and identity is a repeated theme that Gina decided to explain with her work. English and Spanish, and both cultures run through her life. Valdes has a degree in English and Spanish at the University of California, San Diego.
Sena salsa English really goes home. My parents came to America from different countries and they brought their own personal traditions. My family's family blends American culture with Latin culture. The above picture is self-portrait of 1932 by Frida Kahlo. I think that this picture strongly represents Valdes' poetry. In this picture, Frida is standing between Mexico and the US border. Valdes' poetry is to find a sense of "intermediate" between the two cultures.
I decided to analyze English salsa of poetry of Gina Valdes because I can express myself in various ways with this poem. Both my parents and I were born in Mexico, but I decided to move to the United States in February 2000. When we moved here we have brought tradition and customs. My family is fusing American culture with Latin culture. Valdes' poetry is to discover the sense of "between them" when two cultures are mixed.
