The Beard Makes the Man

For ancient Athenian people, beards were a common symbol of manhood. The appearance of beard shows male transitions from boys to adulthood. Those who lost their beards did not lose political rights or lose privileges, but they were ridiculed and humiliated. Interestingly, rather than height or figure, a beard is regarded as the first sign of masculinity in Aristophanes' plays. Beards can easily be identified and observed, it is easy to change the lack or presence of a beard by covering the actor's beard with a mask or by giving him a fake beard.

The problem of this rich facial hair is that you can not easily distinguish the age of men who truly have all these beards. I was really puzzled and spent a lot of time hoping for a beard.
