Hugh Mercer arrived in America as the fugitive of the Jacobs army in 1745 and his brigade led the Princeton battle, who served as a medical officer in the caroden fight. Mercer served as a British officer in the war between France and India and became a friend of George Washington. After the war, Mercer settled in Fredericksburg, Virginia and resumed medical practice. With the outbreak of a revolutionary war, Mercer was appointed General Assemblyman of the Great Army and fought in the battle of New York.
