The arts and craft movement started from the UK, was an international movement of decoration and art that flourished in Europe and North America from 1880 to 1920 and in Japan in the 1920s (Mingei Movement). It represents a simple form of traditional craftsmanship and often uses medieval, romantic or folkloric decorations. It advocates economic and social reform and is basically anti-industrial. Before it was replaced by modernism in the 1930's, it had a great impact on the art of Europe, and its influence was greatly influenced by craftsmen, designers and urban planners.

Popular art style in the 1920s and 1930s characterized by rationalized design shapes, boldly outlined geometric patterns, and the use of industrial materials like stainless steel and plastic. Art Deco started in Paris in the 1920s, became a symbolic style of the roar of the 1920s, spread to the United States. This eclectic style is used for household goods and architecture. Unlike the early Art Nouveau style movement, Art Deco emphasizes a linear and accurate symmetrical shape. Movement reflects the impact of the machine era. For example, in the 1930's Art Deco artists emulated a streamlined form derived from aerodynamics.
