The American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) is a nationally specialized institution that represents more than 74,000 members whose purpose is to promote physical therapy practice, research and education. Like other organizations, APTA has ethical guidelines to comply. In 1935, the Asia-Pacific Trade Agreement adopted the first code of ethics and discipline. The Code of Conduct provides a formal statement recognizing the moral obligations of members of the Association. This Code has been revised several times since 1935.
The preamble "Doctor's Code of Ethics" (Code of Ethics) describes the moral obligations of all physical therapists identified by the Physical Therapy Association (APTA).
