"There is Acoma, it's a class in itself, that group is not in the world ... The longest visit never learns that charm: People like strange, sweet, supernatural dreams It feels, it rock is genii, it is beautifully wasted "- 1983 (James 18), Lummis. Acoma is a beautiful and powerful village that fascinates many people. "From the beginning, Acom caused curiosity and fear to Blazers even due to its strange places and the brutal reputation of the inhabitants" (Sedgwick's Preface).
The first mention about Acom was in 1539. Estevanico was the first non Indian slave who visited Acoma and reported to Marcos de Niza that he linked this information to the new Spanish governor after the expedition. Akoma is known as an independent Hakas kingdom. He called Acoma people encaconados. That is, they are painting turquoise colors in their ears and nose. The expedition captain Francisco Vasquez de Coronado's expedition captain Hernando de Alvarad explained that Pueblo (what they called Ackko) in 1540 was "a very strange place built on a solid rock" And when we visited Pueblo, "one of the most powerful places we have ever seen" the expedition relied on "this place." Alvarado's report further stated:
Location: Acoma is located about 60 miles west of Albuquerque, New Mexico. This reservation includes three major communities of Sky City (Old Arkema), Accomita, McCarty. The traditional land of Acoma Pueblo occupies an area of about 5 million acres. Approximately 10% of them are included in the reservation. History All Pueblo people are considered anasazi people, probably Mogolon and some other ancient people. They learned about building, agriculture, pottery, and basketball. A larger population group can be achieved through effective agriculture and development to save food surplus. In the context of a relatively stable existence, people are pointing more and more time and energy into religion, art and handicrafts.
