Gutenberg Press has started a communication revolution that changed power relations all over the world. However, the Gutenberg Revolution and subsequent modes of communication like radio and television still leave much of the power of companies, interest groups, governments, and wealthy people.
Historically, the industrial revolution changed production and communication through new power and transmission. The first industrial revolution used steam power to achieve mechanized production in the 1880's. The second was used to boost mass production in the 1870s. The third uses electronic equipment and software to automate production and communication from the 1970 's. Today, software is being consumed all over the world, the main cause of our value creation is information processing. Machine learning will create both humility and historical interest by allowing us to make this smarter.
Can we compare the current trend with the Industrial Revolution? Considering that the industrial revolution occurs every time a new primary energy source (keyword renewable energy) is used, a new communication technology (Internet) emerges, and there is a change in mobility (autopilot), the answer is yes is! In addition, robotics engineering, artificial intelligence and life science are progressing rapidly. Renewable energy and the Internet have two features in common. They are fragmented and generate very little marginal cost.
Historically, the industrial revolution will occur as long as the energy production and utilization workflow and communication system are changed. The first industrial revolution was driven by the power of steam locomotives and postal communications. The second industrial revolution, like telegraph, was caused by the progress of power generation and distribution. The Third Industrial Revolution was led by Information Technology Revolution and Renewable Energy
Modern civilization experienced three major social and economic changes, the industrial revolution. The first industrial revolution was built around steam and transformed the modern society by redefining the transportation and manufacturing process. According to Thomas Edison, who promised to "reorganize the lives of the world" by providing efficient energy and modern communication, the emergence of electricity has caused a second revolution . Electricity has paved the way for our third (and present) digital revolution by releasing civilization from fossil fuels and providing technology to more than 4 billion people worldwide. What is common to all major revolutions is that widely-defined technology promote social development by redefining our participation methods, promoting quality of life and promoting economic development.
