As our motto, Ut Prosim (I can serve) is the foundation of Virginia Tech, we take it seriously. This is unique to everyone on campus. At VT Engage, the University's Service Learning and Community Engagement Center, Ut Prosim means to motivate active citizens and work to strengthen the community
VT Engage encourages students to establish long-term relationships with services and communities. Our hope is to find out what you mean by Ut Prosim to you and to provide you with tools and knowledge to become a transformative citizen after graduating from college.
Virginia Tech's motto is "Ut Prosim", which means "I can serve." We are interested in learning about your interests and how you can participate and / or serve. Please briefly explain the groups, organizations and communities that you are participating in. This is a special field you are interested in, why? How long have you been involved? What role do you play? What kind of contribution did you make to this group? Can you influence other people or influence decision making to promote the interests of the team?
The expression "service" is reminiscent of various forms of services. When I refer to 'service', you may think about military service or community service and serve in religious sense. We often think of services with great actions and long-term commitments, but I also think that many people call them "a good deed of random action". We call it a random arbitrary act, but what if you try to add some kind of service to your daily life by stopping it randomly? They are not necessarily magnificent gestures or gifts, but should help others in some way. If these actions are cheering, giving time, or reaching out, we know that we did not have free time, but as we look at it, I think I can find some
TomDispatch is still a way to translate a young impulse to help me in the lives of adults in my country. I can "serve" in a different way, but at least in my opinion, the service is like this. Regardless of its disadvantages, problems and nightmare, I will not hand over to George W Bush or Richard Nixon in Vietnamese time, I will not hand over my country to Donald Trump. This is not an option for me, neither the Nixon era nor the Busch era, but at the moment of the terrible Mar-a-Lago we are entering now. In this regard, I do not think I will be alone. Indeed, today, I realized that myself is a good partner of Rediscca Gordon who frequently visits TomDispatch Rebecca Gordon took into consideration our situation and spent time asking questions to ask It was. But now I think that fate can not be tied to the destiny of the people I serve. The people I serve may grow and develop and may not grow. People I serve may follow the path I do not want to share with them. In this sense, serving others is ridiculous. My service may be useful and may be harmful. People I serve may or may not be living with a love and conscious life. I will serve other people, but I need to control my folly and keep my help (usually to save). Thoreau said he would run away as soon as possible if he knew that someone was moving in the direction to help him. He noticed that he does not need anyone to improve him. He is looking at people who claim to promise to serve others just to meet their own need to preach and take over the lives of others, not usually generous.
