When they took him to the hospital, he experienced traumatic brain injury, lung collapse and rib fracture. The doctor gave him a survival rate of 4%.
When he awoke in eight weeks in a coma, he was told he never walks, talks or graduates from high school.
I'm glad that Will proves his doctor is wrong. After a long and painful recovery, he re-learned how to regain the ability to talk with the way of walking. Not only did he graduate from high school, he is currently studying at the University of Kentucky and he is very energetic.
Unfortunately, the driver increased the speed of the car and sent a text message. The driver read the text coming in at first glance, lost control and fell to the tree at 120 mph.
The driver did not get hurt. But it only needs one text - "Where R?" - forever change the trajectory of Will's life
There is a reason to share this story. Part of my work at AT & T is to allow us to finish text messaging work while driving. The statistics I see daily are horrible
Studies have shown that those who sent text messages during driving have a 23 times higher probability of causing an accident. Since the driver issues warnings, over 100,000 accidents occur each year
But this is a matter of statistics. After a while, they become background noise. Ignoring the real people behind these figures is easy.
I met Will at the Youth Summit who did not send a text message while driving. His story impressed me. All the statistics of the world will never be realized.
I am proud to work for a company that promises to deal with this growing problem. This morning, AT & T enhanced its efforts to establish a nationwide campaign to end dangerous customs of text messages during driving.
We will visit www.itcanwait.com to all drivers and appeal to promise not to drive by sending text messages. We shared this commitment with friends and fans via Facebook and Twitter (#itcanwait) and asked everyone they know to encourage participation in sports.
Then on September 19, we celebrate these commitments and encourage as many people as possible to concentrate on not reading while driving or sending text messages.
AT & T employees have overcome the challenges and are becoming a good example. Research shows that children are more likely to do themselves by watching friends' text messages while driving while watching adults doing the same thing. Our goal is to change these behaviors for once and for all. I want to make text messages and driving unacceptable for drunk driving.
Our expanded program will help achieve this objective. In order to solve this problem and solve this problem from various angles, we will have many groups to join together.
But what I want today to remember is not amounts, statistics, or timetables. Please remember
Life can change in a moment, and we need to be able to change. One day you may be 25 years old, start your dream job at 8,000 miles the next day after 12 days in your best life condition, you may be ready for brain surgery to cancel from the right Huge tumor of leaves. Among the many things I have learned over the past three months, the most important thing is that I am vulnerable and need help. I will never give up a loophole until I am neutral chemotherapy and radiotherapy to ease my warning and seek help. 6 weeks
