Teachers' Perceptions of ELL Students: Do Their Attitudes Shape Their Instruction?

The purpose of this parallel mixing methodology study is to investigate how early childhood teacher perceptions of early childhood English learners (ELL) shape their educational practices. This research was conducted at 10 kindergartens from K to 3 years old, taking place at a suburban school where diverse students of culture and language live. Quantitative data were collected through the management of professional beliefs on the diversity Likert scale by Pohan and Aguilar (2001). In addition, qualitative data was collected. Some survey responses and interviews have shown that all participants are eager to understand, accept, and use the background language of the knowledge base. Discussed understanding of professional development of service teachers to gain understanding of second language acquisition and cultural reaction education theory

According to the census data, about 80% of American English learners (ELL) are Hispanic. Most of these students were born in the US and approximately 2.5% of teachers instructed ELL students to obtain a degree in ESL or bilingual education (NCES, 1997). ELL course and lack of teacher will affect the student's academic performance of ELL students. Between 2000 and 2001, only 18.7% of the states tested ELL with reading comprehension received more than usual ratings. In the same year, approximately 10% of the ELL from the seventh grader to the twelfth grader was reserved. To meet the needs of the rapidly growing student community, more ELL courses are urgently needed and more ELL teachers need to be trained and hired.

The purpose of this research is to educate school administrators about the challenges and obstacles facing ELL students. As the number of ELL students continues to increase, teachers should become more aware of their educational strategies. Teachers are more responsible for their performance than ever, and they need to ensure that each student has access to learning outcomes. As the population of ELL in South Florida continues to increase, the teacher works hard to show students the result of learning by the end of the year for students who do not speak English, can not read or write, can not speak English, can not speak English. This case study will be held at Winston Park K - 8 School. Winston Park is located in the southeastern suburbs of Dade County, Miami, a multiethnic community. The student population is 86% Hispanic, 9% White, 1% Black, 4% Other.
