Shannon Carey is seeking a strong writing with her class at a public school in Oakland, California. In order to help students understand why powerful sentences are important, she sees it as a strong resistance, a way to be heard about youth's most worrisome issues. This framework makes it easier for young people who experienced fair discrimination and alienation to write more powerfully.

Kelly asked his students to read James Baldwin's "Talk to the Teacher" article. And he explained that the teacher must shape the influence of new generation thinkers and revolutionaries that change the society in which we live. The students analyzed the text and looked for concrete examples of how Baldwin accentuated his argument. Kelly explains this task in detail in her blog.
