Residents of the wasted land of Elliot live in a society of moral bankruptcy and spiritual loss. Through a decent story, Elliott recalls the story of lost love, disarray of desire, abandonment of spirituality, waste pilgrimage and "life that died". Why they think that they want to do it though they do not stop thinking about what they want, but they may not be what they want.
Through a metaphor like Halle's wolf, Hesse is diagnosing the soul of modern people, the disillusionment of the 20th century, the dislocation of the heart, the era of T.S. Elliott's "Wasted Land" felt as if many people were empty and bankrupt, as traditional beliefs and values kept and continues to grow Western civilization for the second and half century. This is a strange and retrograde way to tell stories. I am T. S. I am talking about Eliot and "Wasted Land". As far as my literary course is concerned, "wasteland" is how people do not understand literature, history and culture. Elliot tried to suggest literature, history, and culture through a series of vague tips, he insisted that people did not master these days well. I do not know why he thinks this is a good idea. In my brain, it creates a feedback loop that I wonder if Eliot never meant to show "Wasteland" to others. Otherwise, I do not know who his target group is, they are not joking except for other elitists in the jokes he wants to include a joke.
