The rapidly growing afforestation area accounts for only about 4% of the world's forests, but it is an important source of industrial wood. Sustainable management of afforestation sites is also an increasingly important strategic importance for Stora Enso.

Stora Enso is doing large-scale tree planting projects in Brazil, Uruguay and China. Like other projects owned through a joint venture, there are also pilot projects in Laos. Approximately 6% of our timber comes from farmland

Stora Enso does not change natural forests and protected areas to afforestation sites, it identifies and protects important areas from a social, cultural or economic point of view. We will construct afforestation sites on low biodiversity land and carefully monitor the water balance in these areas.

Afforestation provides new opportunities for the community and helps to reverse economic recession and rural population decline.
